The right size bike is important for kids. Having a bike that is too big will make it harder to ride. Kids should be able to reach the floor and have full control of the handlebars. Kids bikes are sized using their wheel size as instead of their frame size.

Balance and 12” bikes are perfect for the youngest children and help to build up skills with balance, steering and co-ordination. Balance bikes could mean that your kid skips the stabilisers stage completely, but that does not mean you can not use stabilisers on a normal 12” bike.

14” – 18” bikes are built for slightly older kids who have come out of the stabiliser stage and have mastered the balancing and steering skills. They tend to be made from stronger material to endure all the energetic riding a 4-6 year-old could do.

20” bikes start getting gears and suspension, aiming more towards park rides, canal paths and going slightly off-track, perfect for 7-9 year olds and their adventurous parents.

24” bikes are the biggest you can get in kids bikes, and are the closest thing you will get to an adult bike. You can get both off-road and on-road bikes which are built with better materials suited to specific riding styles.
